Enable the new line for mobile data and disable data roaming on your main SIM if you do not want to use it abroad.
Separately, turn on Data Roaming for the new line itself: Settings → Cellular → the new line → Data Roaming. Without this step the eSIM won't get data abroad even if the line is installed and active — this is the most common reason an eSIM "doesn't work".
